Tips
Hunting Season
-
Our hunting season starts in March and runs through to November.
-
March-April are our autumn months with mild weather with a few last rain showers, but there is still a lot of foliage on the trees, and the grass still needs to be grazed and trampled down.
-
May-July are our winter months with cold nights and mildly warm days, which are excellent for hunting. In this period the leaves have mostly fallen and the grass is mostly trampled down which makes vision much better.
-
August - September is spring with temperatures heating up a little. This period is highly productive from a hunting perspective, as most of the smaller water sources have now dried up, and animals are now forced to visit the bigger water sources to drink.
-
October is the hottest month in Zimbabwe, and this period before the first rains is the time when the big trophy elephant bulls and buffalo bulls are forced out of hiding to come to the bigger water sources.
-
Our rainy season normally starts any time from mid-October onwards, and our areas are still huntable with good success until end of November
Health
-
Our hunting area in Matabeleland North is considered a high-risk zone for malaria.
-
It is therefore necessary to take malaria prophylaxes. Please consult with your medical practitioner which prophylaxes to use.
-
Except for malaria, no special precautions are necessary. However, should you wish to visit Zambia or fly into or out of Livingstone in Zambia, it is necessary to be vaccinated against yellow fever.
-
We recommend you to use sun block/protection as a precaution to the African sun.
-
Should you have any medical condition that we should be aware of, please inform us in advance, in order for us to plan and prepare for it.
Passports & Visas
-
Valid passports are necessary to enter Zimbabwe. The Visa application is done at the port of entry into Zimbabwe at customs at a minimal fee of USD 20. Make sure you have a USD 20 note with you.
Communications
-
In most of our camps we are able to communicate via internet and mobile phones. There are two mobile networks in Zimbabwe – Net One and Econet. Econet is in our opinion the better network as we are able to communicate quite widely on it even in some parts of our hunting areas.
